Premium Catheters;Hydrocoat (polyurethane)

Hydrocoat minimizes thrombotic and baterial aggregation on the catheter surface. When hydrated the
catheter surface becomes lubricious and blood products and microorganisms are less likely to aggregate
on this smooth surface. Thus, the likelihood of catheter clotting and bacterial colonization is reduced.
Hydrocoat has the lowest coefficient of friction on its surface of any intravascular catheter.
The Hydrocoat's rounded tip works further to minimize thrombogenecity and maximize catheter patency.

For over a decade .......
Access technologies has provided hydrophilically coated catheters. This catheter offers many advantages.
Hydrocoats's highly lubricious surface facilitates smooth insertion, particularly into smaller vessels.
Additionally, polyurethane has a very strong wall tear strength, so it is less likely to upture, as other catheter
materials often do at higher pressures. Together with rounded tip configuration, this technology represents
the optimal performance in long-term laboratory animal catheters.

 ROUND MOLDED TIP

Research presented at the 1994 AALAS Meeting by Dr. Laura O'Farrel (then at Hershey Medical Center) concluded that in rats, rounded tip silicone catheters are superior to square cut and bevel cut silicone catheters.

"Necropsy findings revealed that fistula with sharp (square cut) intravascular tips traumatized the vessel endothelium producing thrombosis in 7 out of 10 cases. This compared with only 1 case of thrombosis in the 31 rounded catheters."

" ... comparison of sharp (square tip) and rounded tip catheters revealed the superiority of the latter."

"... some tubings had been cut with a scalpel and ... the cut edge might have abraded the endothelium and induced thrombus formation...".
