Access Applications

Access Technologies pioneered the V-A-P for totally subcutaneous access in lab animal research.

It started as the Vascular Access Port but is now available to maximize long-term patency in vascular,

intestinal, biliary, intracranial, intraspinal, etc. access applications. For intermittent access,

the V-A-P obviates the need for jackets and harnasses.

For continuous access, the V-A-P minimizes contamination, sepsis and catheter dislodgement.

 

TITANIUM AND POLYSULFONE;

V-A-P reservoirs are constructed from implant grade polysulfone plastic or titanium, and silicone rubber. All V-A-P

materials are also in use for human access ports. All ports are MRI compatible. While titanium and polysulfone ports are

comparable with respect to biocompatibility, the titanium allows for use of a larger, denser septum which grips the Huber

Needle more aggressively. Accordingly titanium ports may be more appropriate for protected or continuous access.

 

STERILIZATION;

All V-A-P with silicone catheters may be autoclaved or EtO gas sterilized. V-A-P 's containing Hydrocoat coated

polyurethane catheters must be EtO sterilized.

 

HUBER POINT NEEDLES;

The septum on the V-A-P may only be accessed using NON CORING Huber Point Needles and Right Angle Sets.

A Huber Needle is provided with each V-A-P.
