UNO Hydrocoat Catheters

  • Hydrocoated polyurethane catheters minimize thrombotic and bacterial aggregation on the catheter surface. By hydrating the catheter surface, the catheter becomes very smooth. Blood products and microorganisms are less likely to aggregate on a smoother surface than on a rougher surface. Thus, the likelihood of catheter clotting and catheter-related sepsis is reduced.
  • Hydrocoat represents an improvement in Hydrogel coatings through a patented process. This new generation is applied more permanently and produces the lowest coefficient of friction which relates to how slippery and effective the coating is.
  • The addition of the rounded catheter tip further reduces the risk of thrombotic related catheter failure. The rounded tip reduces damage to the sensitive endothelial wall of the blood vessel. Trauma to this intimal lining initiates the clotting cascade which hastens catheter failure.
  • Hydrocoat's highly lubricious surface facilitates very smooth insertion, particularly in smaller vessels. Additionally, the polyurethane material has a very strong wall tear strength, so it will not rupture as other catheter materials often do at high pressures.

Hydrocoat catheter are available in the following sizes:

French Size Gauge Inner diameter  Outer diameter Standard Length Ordering Code Modifications
3 20 0,6mm x 0,9mm 60cm CNC-3H If retention beads are required, please specify number and position. For other available modification see our catheter modification page.
3,5 18 0,6mm x 1,1mm 60cm CNC-3,5H
5 16 1,0mm x 1,7mm 60cm CNC-5H
7 13 1,5mm x 2,4mm 60cm CNC-7H

Technology is important in animal catherization because of the relationship between techniques and equipment employed and the resulting incidence of catheter complication. Hydrocoat catheters with their exclusive coating confront most of the problems associated with this technology-linked procedure. Having twice the tensile strength of comparable silicone, Hydrocoat catheters have a 30% larger lumen for higher flow and easier blood withdrawal. The bonded hydrophilic coating is instantly activated byblood or biofluid upon insertion and provides a highly lubricious surface which greatly increases ease of entry and offers a smooth non-irritant interface with blood.
